01) SAW:

a) You and a friend/relative/acquaintance have woken up in a dark, dingy room and are chained together - quite literally. Will you be able to get out or is this your final moment? Better hurry up because the clock's ticking.

b) Perhaps you decided to lock this person up and test them to see if they really do appreciate their life. Will you listen to their pleas for help or just sit back and watch them suffer?

c) Congratulations! You survived your trap! Now, how has your life changed or are you still committing the same crime you were judged for months later?

02) Final Destination:

a) You have just seen your friends/loved ones die in horrific ways in the area you're at. Do you try to save who you can and be labeled as batshit or do you just accept your fate?

b) It seems like Death is claming its' victims one by one and you two are next. Do you try to outrun it, thinking you can escape Death or decide that it's your time to go?

c) Lucky you. The two of you have managed to elude Death for all this time. But, it seems like Death has other plans for you. Better watch yourself.

03) The Ring:

a) You've received a mysterious tape from a friend. Do you decide to watch it with a friend or try to destroy it? Though, a phone call will result with someone saying, "Seven days..."

b) Thought it was just a fluke? Guess again. A creepy girl starts to climb out of your TV and wants to kill you. What do you try to do?

c) You've survived! But, wait - someone's deciding to watch this very same tape! Stop them before it's too late!

04) Battle Royale:

a) You and someone else have just woke up in a strange room on the promise you're going on a vacation. And now, someone's telling you that this is a game for a television show and you're the star. You're given a weapon, but do you decide to go through with killing everyone else in this room or try to fight through the influence?

b) You've decided to go through with killing these people. After all, all you want to do is go home to your family, right? But, your best friend is your target now. What will you do?

c) Good luck on surviving the program! Or is it really the end? It seems like The Program isn't done screwing with you yet. Do you take who you can and hightail it to another country or resign yourself to another round of it?

05) The Birds:

Oh no, the birds have gone batshit! Do you try to deal with them yourself like the badass you think you are or do you take cover and hide?

06) A Nightmare on Elm's Street:

a) Last night you had the craziest dream! You were stalked through a dark boiler room by a severely burned figure with sharp knives attached to the fingers on a glove on his right hand. Your pursuer closes in and slices you, but just as he's about to do you in you woke up. But wait, why do you have cuts in your pajamas? That didn't really happen, right...? Maybe you should talk to a friend about this. Hope the same thing didn't happen to them....

b) So you've succesfully managed to pull the psycho killer out of his dream world and into reality. He's only human. Hope you have a good plan and those booby traps you and your friend set up around the house will get the job done.

c) Congrats! You survived and your friends who were all brutally murdered have magically come back to life! How do you cope with this? At least it will be safe to sleep now. Or is it...?

07) Paranormal Activity:

a) A good friend of yours recently told you that they've been haunted by some sort of presence for as long as they can remember and... it's not exactly friendly. Problem is, they just moved and they're pretty sure whatever it was has followed them to their new home. They sound pretty worried, but there's no way any of this is real, right? Maybe you should head over and set up some cameras. If anything it'll make your friend feel better and you can both get a good laugh out of it.

b) So. Something actually showed up on that tape and you've been told that this presence isn't a ghost. Oh no, it's something much worse. You've got a demon after you. It feeds off of negative energy and is intent on tormenting you no matter where you go. You probably shouldn't provoke it. Who knows what'll happen.

c) You and a friend have come across a series of tapes. They look to be home videos, amateur paranormal investigations of someone's home. What you see on them is... disturbing to say the least. Deformed shadows on the walls, doors opening and closing on their own, screeches and screams coming from something that is clearly not human. The more you watch, the worse it gets and it quickly becomes apparent that whoever filmed this is most likely dead. What do you do with this information? Do you go investigate yourself? Turn the tapes over to the police? Or maybe just write it all off, believe it's not real. It's gotta be an indie film or something, man.

08) Silent Hill:

a) You've just received a letter from a friend/sibling/parent/lover/significant other. Problem is, they're, well how to put this gently... they're kind of dead. The letter tells you to meet them in some town you've never heard of. Maybe you feel guilty, maybe you think it's some sort of sick trick and want to go punch whoever sent the letter in the face, or maybe... maybe you're just curious, but whatever your reason, you do as the letter says. Upon your arrival you run into someone who looks oddly familiar...

b) It's been hours and you're no closer to finding out the truth behind this letter than you were when you arrived. You decide to explore an abandoned hotel and as you search it you come across a videotape. You're hesitant to watch it, but this could give you more information. But... wait... is that you? And this other person... it's the one who sent you the letter. Wait. Wait. Why does it look like you're killing them?

c) Oh, crap. Pyramid Head is around the corner. Better start running!

01) Graveyard: Pretty spooky place to be at this time of night, huh? Hopefully this place isn't haunted by evil spirits or inhabited by a serial killer on the loose!

02) Mental Institution: Even with this place being abandoned, you can't help but hear the moans and screams of previous patients in these walls. Perhaps there's some deep, dark secret you can uncover here or maybe you'll also end up losing your own mind.

03) Abandoned Theme Park: Everything here is rusted completely, but you swear you can hear the screams of children on rides, among other things. Do you decide to investigate the place and try to figure out the secrets or do the sounds of kids screaming spurs something deep inside you?

04) Haunted House: Oh, boy! Let's go exploring! It seems like the wallpaper is already peeling and... what's that metallic smell coming from the basement? And what's with the doors opening and slamming closed? Hope you have a flashlight handy to make it through the night.

05) Church: Such a beautiful place, isn't it? But, are you sure you aren't hearing voices in an area where it's supposed to be quiet? Or, for that matter, are you sure you're not hallucinating seeing a god? And, it seems like the doors are closed already...

06) Random Area: You wake up in an unfamiliar location with there being no one around. The sheriff isn't in town, nor is the mayor or, quite frankly, anyone but another poor sap that woke up in this area. Hopefully you two can make it out of here alive before becoming a part of the town like the other visitors.

07) Hotel: There was nothing in sight for miles, so you and a friend decided to stop by at this rinky dink motel with the lights flickering every so often and everyone else just seeming complacent about being stuck in such a place. Perhaps there's something omnious about the bathroom's smell or what reeks in your room. At least there's HBO.

08) Zombies: Looks like popular media wasn't kidding when they said the undead would rise again in your town. Hope you have what you need to fend off the zombies and know what to do against them!

[Adele doesn't wait for the jump proper. As soon as she sees those joints, that face, the beginning of the spit? She fires. Repeatedly, tightly aimed shots at the head and midsection.]

[There's a spurt of blood, a splash of wetness somewhere above Adele's head, and a choked cry. The nurse catches itself on the opposite wall, then tumbles to the landing, staggering to its feet with a purplish bloodstain blossoming over its chest.

Undeterred, it lunges for her, teeth bared.]

[She waits for it to land, braced against the winding staircase. The stumble and stagger gives her just enough time to reload her revolver, snap the cylinder back in place, and snap her gun up again. Adele shoves herself to the side firing twice more. Head and heart. Then she bolts, clamoring up the stairs.]

[The nurse's neck twists, its head jerking sideways as a bullet lodges in it, spraying more discolored fluid into the air. It writhes, giving another rattling, disturbingly feminine cry; stepping around to make a dazed grab at Adele. Its nails graze her side as she makes for the stairs, but it's too disoriented to follow.

The first landing will bring her to another hall, mostly patient rooms and poorly lit. A few doors, including those of a storage room and a common area, are wide open, while the rest are either barely cracked or locked. Should Adele's flashlight beam be directed some feet ahead, she'll see another flash of white, a figure fast approaching.]

[Once she reaches the top she scrambles for the first lit area she can find, dodging from that flash of white- that nurse. That thing. She doesn't know what it is, doesn't want to know, all she knows is she's the idiotic blonde in the horror movie and she'd rather not die. Not after this.

She claws her way through the first open door, shoving it closed and holding it shut with her shoulder against that next. Thing. That might be following. She doesn't even know what she's locked herself in with, or if she's locked herself in alone. She just needs something between her and it.]

[The room is fairly spacious, with peeling blue walls and some chairs and tables scattered about. The white globes of the overhead lights are dark, but the large window provides enough of a glow for her to see another figure grip one of the tables, dragging it over the carpeted floor towards the door, the scrape of the table legs mingling with a persistent scratching on the other side.]

Move over. [A man's voice, terse and commanding. He hauls the table in front of the door as soon as she pulls away, pushing it up against it to serve as a barricade. That done, he steps back to regard his handiwork for a moment, standing in silhouette against the light, then looks at her.]

It's about time you showed up.

[Nothing slammed against the other side of the doors, not yet. She's got her heels dug in, waiting for the inevitable barrage when she sees that figure. Humanoid. Her gun goes up first, wavering only at the sound of a voice. Clear. Coherent. Sane.

She moves as she's bid and helps him shove the table in place, staggering back once she's certain it will hold. For however long. Then there was the man. He seemed normal enough, but after those? She takes a few steps back and keeps her revolver up.]

Who are you, and what are they?

I'm Dr. Feinald, psychiatrist. Those are projections--manifestations of repressed anxiety.

[He regards the gun, slight displeasure showing at the corner of his mouth at the way she's pointing it at him.] Your anxiety.

[Now that she can see him better-

What in god's name.]

Why is Neo in an abandoned hospital with alleged projections of my repressed anxiety?

[He raises an eyebrow. He has no idea who this Neo is, but he can explain well enough why he is here.]

You can think of me as the spokesperson for your unconscious mind. You've been through a great deal of trauma recently, and your brain's taking the opportunity to make you confront the problems you never properly addressed.

...Bullshit.

[This? This was impossible. What trauma? The divorce? Being passed over for a raise? The last of her private clients being a bit of an ass and almost throttling her? She'd undergone n o trauma. He was lying. To cover up whatever was really going on.]

I assure you that I'm being completely truthful about this, Adele.

...How do you know my name?

I'm part of your mind. It would be rather pathetic if I didn't know that.

[He leans back against the edge of the table, crossing his arms.] But before you become convinced of my omniscience, I'm really not privy to much information. I can't flip through your memories. You'll have to talk to me for us to begin working things out.

...

[Bt why would she need to-

Oh.

Oh.]

Unger.

[And with that it comes flooding back. The appointment, the children. Hiding. Why she hid. Working with him for two months- everything she'd seen. That night-]

Is this hell? This is hell. I'm dead.

[He gives a dismissive wave of his hand.] You're not dead. You're lying comatose in a Parisian hospital. You'll regain consciousness eventually, while in the meantime you have this to contend with.

...so my mind fashioned this merry little hell all on it's own. [A beat.] What painkillers do they have me on out there. [She shakes her head and sighs, leaning against the wall.]

Say I believe you. Why would my own anxieties try to kill me? And what happens if I just. Shoot you. Or myself? Hypothetically speaking. Just to be free of this mess.

[He shrugs. Ones too modern to be in his supposed frame of reference, probably.]

The desire for self-preservation is an excellent motivator. You need to make some changes in your thinking, and this setting is intended to induce those changes. [His brow pinches in distaste.] I imagine you'll have to arrive here again. Repeat the process. You won't be let off that easily.

[She was terribly tempted to just. Shoot him and leave. Climb out the window,get back to her car and drive. This is her mind, isn't it? Who says she can't return to a happy memory. The cottage in Normandy. The flat in Paris before everything went wrong. Anywhere but here.]

This is my mind, is it not? I this is a...dream. A hallucination. I should be able to change it how I want.

[He shakes his head.] This isn't an ordinary dream. This is the result of your mind being placed under excessive emotional stress. You're past the option of continued repression--you have to work within this framework to escape it.

I'm not going back out there.

[She jerks her head at the hall. Whatever those nurses might signify? She doesn't want to know. She represses these things for a reason- she doesn't need to process them. especially since the likelihood of her waking up is slim at best. She'd lost too much blood. She'd probably died on the operating table, more than once.]

Of course not. Not without weakening those projections first.

[He straightens up, walks over to another table and pulls out a chair, motioning for her to sit. Yes, Adele, it's talk therapy time.]

If this is all in my head...do I need to worry about ammunition? [She follows, warily looking back at the blockaded door. After a moment's thought she holstered her gun and settles in the chair. This could be worse. Though. Why on earth he was Keanu Reeves was beyond her.]

[He gives another shrug, seating himself across from her and folding his hands on the tabletop. Hell if he knows where and when her mind will allow transgressions of the laws of physics.]

I suspect those nurses bear some relation to your work experiences, so we might as well start there. You're a surgeon, correct? What has your day-to-day schedule been like?

Over the past two months? I work when I'm allowed, and only when they have a subject so badly injured as to require surgical treatment. I could see fifty patients in a day, or two. At any hour, no matter what I might already be doing.
