01) SAW:

a) You and a friend/relative/acquaintance have woken up in a dark, dingy room and are chained together - quite literally. Will you be able to get out or is this your final moment? Better hurry up because the clock's ticking.

b) Perhaps you decided to lock this person up and test them to see if they really do appreciate their life. Will you listen to their pleas for help or just sit back and watch them suffer?

c) Congratulations! You survived your trap! Now, how has your life changed or are you still committing the same crime you were judged for months later?

02) Final Destination:

a) You have just seen your friends/loved ones die in horrific ways in the area you're at. Do you try to save who you can and be labeled as batshit or do you just accept your fate?

b) It seems like Death is claming its' victims one by one and you two are next. Do you try to outrun it, thinking you can escape Death or decide that it's your time to go?

c) Lucky you. The two of you have managed to elude Death for all this time. But, it seems like Death has other plans for you. Better watch yourself.

03) The Ring:

a) You've received a mysterious tape from a friend. Do you decide to watch it with a friend or try to destroy it? Though, a phone call will result with someone saying, "Seven days..."

b) Thought it was just a fluke? Guess again. A creepy girl starts to climb out of your TV and wants to kill you. What do you try to do?

c) You've survived! But, wait - someone's deciding to watch this very same tape! Stop them before it's too late!

04) Battle Royale:

a) You and someone else have just woke up in a strange room on the promise you're going on a vacation. And now, someone's telling you that this is a game for a television show and you're the star. You're given a weapon, but do you decide to go through with killing everyone else in this room or try to fight through the influence?

b) You've decided to go through with killing these people. After all, all you want to do is go home to your family, right? But, your best friend is your target now. What will you do?

c) Good luck on surviving the program! Or is it really the end? It seems like The Program isn't done screwing with you yet. Do you take who you can and hightail it to another country or resign yourself to another round of it?

05) The Birds:

Oh no, the birds have gone batshit! Do you try to deal with them yourself like the badass you think you are or do you take cover and hide?

06) A Nightmare on Elm's Street:

a) Last night you had the craziest dream! You were stalked through a dark boiler room by a severely burned figure with sharp knives attached to the fingers on a glove on his right hand. Your pursuer closes in and slices you, but just as he's about to do you in you woke up. But wait, why do you have cuts in your pajamas? That didn't really happen, right...? Maybe you should talk to a friend about this. Hope the same thing didn't happen to them....

b) So you've succesfully managed to pull the psycho killer out of his dream world and into reality. He's only human. Hope you have a good plan and those booby traps you and your friend set up around the house will get the job done.

c) Congrats! You survived and your friends who were all brutally murdered have magically come back to life! How do you cope with this? At least it will be safe to sleep now. Or is it...?

07) Paranormal Activity:

a) A good friend of yours recently told you that they've been haunted by some sort of presence for as long as they can remember and... it's not exactly friendly. Problem is, they just moved and they're pretty sure whatever it was has followed them to their new home. They sound pretty worried, but there's no way any of this is real, right? Maybe you should head over and set up some cameras. If anything it'll make your friend feel better and you can both get a good laugh out of it.

b) So. Something actually showed up on that tape and you've been told that this presence isn't a ghost. Oh no, it's something much worse. You've got a demon after you. It feeds off of negative energy and is intent on tormenting you no matter where you go. You probably shouldn't provoke it. Who knows what'll happen.

c) You and a friend have come across a series of tapes. They look to be home videos, amateur paranormal investigations of someone's home. What you see on them is... disturbing to say the least. Deformed shadows on the walls, doors opening and closing on their own, screeches and screams coming from something that is clearly not human. The more you watch, the worse it gets and it quickly becomes apparent that whoever filmed this is most likely dead. What do you do with this information? Do you go investigate yourself? Turn the tapes over to the police? Or maybe just write it all off, believe it's not real. It's gotta be an indie film or something, man.

08) Silent Hill:

a) You've just received a letter from a friend/sibling/parent/lover/significant other. Problem is, they're, well how to put this gently... they're kind of dead. The letter tells you to meet them in some town you've never heard of. Maybe you feel guilty, maybe you think it's some sort of sick trick and want to go punch whoever sent the letter in the face, or maybe... maybe you're just curious, but whatever your reason, you do as the letter says. Upon your arrival you run into someone who looks oddly familiar...

b) It's been hours and you're no closer to finding out the truth behind this letter than you were when you arrived. You decide to explore an abandoned hotel and as you search it you come across a videotape. You're hesitant to watch it, but this could give you more information. But... wait... is that you? And this other person... it's the one who sent you the letter. Wait. Wait. Why does it look like you're killing them?

c) Oh, crap. Pyramid Head is around the corner. Better start running!

01) Graveyard: Pretty spooky place to be at this time of night, huh? Hopefully this place isn't haunted by evil spirits or inhabited by a serial killer on the loose!

02) Mental Institution: Even with this place being abandoned, you can't help but hear the moans and screams of previous patients in these walls. Perhaps there's some deep, dark secret you can uncover here or maybe you'll also end up losing your own mind.

03) Abandoned Theme Park: Everything here is rusted completely, but you swear you can hear the screams of children on rides, among other things. Do you decide to investigate the place and try to figure out the secrets or do the sounds of kids screaming spurs something deep inside you?

04) Haunted House: Oh, boy! Let's go exploring! It seems like the wallpaper is already peeling and... what's that metallic smell coming from the basement? And what's with the doors opening and slamming closed? Hope you have a flashlight handy to make it through the night.

05) Church: Such a beautiful place, isn't it? But, are you sure you aren't hearing voices in an area where it's supposed to be quiet? Or, for that matter, are you sure you're not hallucinating seeing a god? And, it seems like the doors are closed already...

06) Random Area: You wake up in an unfamiliar location with there being no one around. The sheriff isn't in town, nor is the mayor or, quite frankly, anyone but another poor sap that woke up in this area. Hopefully you two can make it out of here alive before becoming a part of the town like the other visitors.

07) Hotel: There was nothing in sight for miles, so you and a friend decided to stop by at this rinky dink motel with the lights flickering every so often and everyone else just seeming complacent about being stuck in such a place. Perhaps there's something omnious about the bathroom's smell or what reeks in your room. At least there's HBO.

08) Zombies: Looks like popular media wasn't kidding when they said the undead would rise again in your town. Hope you have what you need to fend off the zombies and know what to do against them!

[Oh. Well. This sucks. It's obviously some psycho Capitol bullshit. Just when they thought they'd never have to participate in anything Hunger Games-esque like this again ... ]

Where are we? Do you remember how we got here? [<- mr. stupid questions.]

[Finnick looks around the room and the first thing he sees is a dead body with a gun and a microcassette recorder. That's ... cool. ]

[Katniss just grimaces as she gets her bearings. there is nothing about this situation that she likes. there are a lot worse people she could have ended up with than Finnick, at least.]

What does it matter? If we don't get out of here soon, we'll end up like that.

[she nods to the body, wondering what kind of message the Capitol is trying to send them with it, regardless of what might end up being on the recorder.]

Point taken. Let's not, huh?

[He's not really eager to be the one to do this, but the player could have a tape inside, which could be important to their escape and/or finding out why they're there in the first place. And if it's a trap, it's better that he be the one to get caught in it than her. Wouldn't want anything to happen to the great Princess Mockingjay. Walking to it isn't going to work, so Finnick lies on his stomach and stretches his hand out toward the body in an effort to grab at the player. It's ... still not working out so well, actually.]

[apparently Finnick won't need to; the recorder suddenly clicks, and the tape starts playing on its own. out of the device comes a garbled voice, speaking to the two of them calmly and coolly.]

Hello, tributes. I want to play a game.

[to which, of course, Katniss responds with a scoff. great. juuust great. if their captor had been trying to unnerve her with the little display, it's not working... at least, not according to she's showing. she has to keep her cool, even if it does sort of set her on edge. she glances over to Finnick, even rolling her eyes a little; he'll understand, won't he?]

Like we haven't had enough of those already.

[Of course he will, Katniss. :'| He goes back to sitting up and stares down at the recorder.]

They just can't get by without us. The woes of being popular.

[He sounds disdainful in a sassy kind of way, but it's just a thin layer covering his unease.]

[the recording continues.]

Everyone has weaknesses. It's what makes you human. The two of you overcame quite a few in your Games. But your biggest weaknesses don't have anything to do with yourselves. Your weaknesses are them.

[it's then that Katniss's pupils dilate, that she sucks in a jilted breath. instantly, she pictures faces in her mind—Prim, her mother, Gale, Peeta. even if the message is just recorded, she can't help but yell at the little thing anyway; she knows it's extremely likely that they're being monitored, after all.]

What did you do to them?

[Finnick immediately knows they're talking about Annie, in his case. The thought of those bastards at the Capitol doing something to her after he'd tried so hard to keep her safe made his blood run cold. But, if they are in fact being monitored, freaking out about it would only make it worse. He tries to keep calm.]

They can't hear you. [Even if it was probably a lie, he was hoping she'd take the hint and stfu. Also, he wanted to be able to listen to the tape. Maybe it ... wouldn't be that bad .............]

[she's about to ask why the hell he's not reacting when she gets what he's doing. oh. right. looks like she just proved them right with that little outburst... she grits her teeth as she gives in to his method of not reacting, waiting for the rest of the message with bated breath.]

There is only one way out of the room you are in, and only one of you will leave. The key unlocks both your cuffs and the door. The container housing the key will only open when one of you stops breathing, but in order to reveal the container, you will need to work together until that point. Don't waste your time trying to trick the system. Can you stand to depend on someone who you will have to sacrifice if you want to win?

Oh, and by the way. Whichever one of you leaves will meet the other's loved ones. Your own? Will not be as lucky.

[then, in the familiar, telltale, over-the-top Capitol accent that Katniss remembers mocking so many times, in what feels like another lifetime:]

May the odds be ever in your favor.

[this has to be a joke.]

[Is this real life??? Is this going to be forever?? If he could actually reach the damn tape recorder, he'd be compelled to throw it across the room or something. Not that it would be any more useful than Katniss's screaming at it, but it might make him feel a little better.]

It's nothing we haven't already done. [Working together with someone you'll ultimately have to kill, that is. Of course, this was different. They weren't part of some tribute alliance, they were friends.

Finnick stays quiet a minute while mulling this over. Keeping Katniss alive was important above all else. He'd agreed to that in what felt like another lifetime ago. It wasn't like he wanted to die, he had to get back to Annie. Only ... what was the point of winning if it was going to result in her death?

It became clear to him. It was the Capitol, and they had a motive. For whatever reason, they wanted Katniss to kill him. The loved one threat was to ensure that he'd let her. Then they could kill off hers in one fell swoop, too. But why? To make her ... angrier???

At that point he gave up on being Sherlock Holmes.]

We outsmarted the Games. What's stopping us from outsmarting this? [he'll just keep trying to play it cool. like the fonz.]

[Katniss just hangs her head for the longest time. so many things are going through her mind—why? why? hasn't she had enough? is this the price of becoming the Mockingjay?

this is a trap; there's no doubt about it. everything about it screams fishy. from mentioning the Games to weaknesses to loved ones... it was all set up to cater to the two of them, wasn't it? ugh.

she holds her wrist up to inspect the chain linking them together; nothing out of the ordinary with it. but there's no way it's going to come off easily. all the while, she steals glances at Finnick; she knows what's going through his mind. and she does not intend for him to die. no. enough people have lost their lives thanks to her. she won't allow it.

she can't lose it now. keep it together.]

Any plans?

Beyond surviving? None yet. [He also looks down at the chain and pulls at it, checking for any signs of looseness or flaws in the metal. But why would they ever be that lucky? ]

We could try cutting into the chain. There has to be something in the room we can use.

[her eyes dart around the room, seeing if anything sharp catches her eye... aside from a few small rocks, she can't spot anything. of course.]

Can't be that easy.

[she's just saying that for the camera and bugs; she's nowhere close to giving up. maybe they're working some reverse psychology on the two of them...]

Let's at least get up and get a real look around. We can't sit here like ducks.

[He knows she's right, but, well ... ]

So much for wishful thinking.

[Finnick rises to his feet, being careful to not jerk Katniss around in the process.]

That rusty bathtub looks promising.

[she follows his lead, standing up right after he does. she makes a motion to start moving toward the bathtub, but nothing too fast or too sudden; you never know what could happen.]

What about it?

[He walks with her, keeping their pace slow and cautious.]

Inside the tub is the only place we couldn't see from where we were sitting. [He pauses, reconsiders, then shrugs.] I guess it's not terribly promising, is it?

[As they get closer, they can peer in and see ... a plastic bag with two hacksaws in it. Yipeeee ... ]

[well, that's... new. not exactly unexpected, though. she knew it wouldn't have been something actually helpful... hell, she's actually thinking it's good fortune that the saws aren't something that'll to kill them as soon as they lay eyes on them.]

What are we supposed to do with these?

[He bends down to pick up the bag and get a better look at them.]

Cut the chain? [Wouldn't that be too easy, though? He frowns. It has to be something else.] Maybe. They look a little rusted.

It's worth a try.

[she shrugs as she matches his grimace, since she knows they're both thinking the same thing. but may as well get it out of the way. they might get more ideas while actively doing something, rather than just sitting around and waiting for the otherwise inevitable.]

[He pulls a saw out of the bag, tossing the other at the bag over to Katniss. Then he carefully crouches on the ground and gives the saw a try. The blade grinds against the metal, but doesn't seem to be having any real effect. Which is really frustrating, considering how strong and ~manly~ he is. So he keeps stubbornly going at it, over and over again.]

[she deftly catches the bag, but she doesn't take the saw out yet. she simply crosses her arms and watches him go at it for about a minute... by then, she's had enough. she's seen him in combat enough times to know he's got strength, and it's obvious he's not making any progress.]

You're wasting your energy. It has to be something else.

[Well, when she's right, she's right. Finnick sets the saw on the ground beside him and takes another look at the chain. Hardly a scratch.]

How many other uses could there be? The saws would be useless in battle ... [Like they'd be able to ~battle~ while stuck together, he realizes after opening his mouth. Whatever. His stare goes back down to the saw. What does it mean???]

[she peers again at the saw inside the bag. it's identical to the one Finnick just placed down; nothing else special about it. she figures they might as well try to get facts straight with a recap; maybe an idea would spring up while they're going over what they already know.]

There are two saws, so we're probably meant to each have one. It wouldn't make sense for us to fight. The cuffs and the chain can't be broken.

[she's slowly forming an idea as she verbalizes her thoughts... and she's not liking it one bit. please, please, please let her be wrong.]

... Are we supposed to cut through something else?
